VeloMelo provides forums for cyclists of similar skill sets and interests to get together and collect adventures. Our local rides occur on a regular basis but vary by time of year. We encourage members to post group ride opportunities in addition to our core events.

Group Ride Schedule:

Saturday’s Wootton / K2 Cafe Ride

9:00 am Start April - October

This diverse group ride meets every Saturday morning year-round, except when road conditions warrant cancellation or temps fall under 40 degrees.

Although the ride has a reputation for being highly competitive in the AA Group, a majority of the riders participate in what we now call our Adventure Group. This group explores the natural beauty of the western Montgomery County countryside. We ride at a brisk pace but prioritize comradely over hammering the hills. EVERY ride stops at K2 Cafe for a coffee break!

Routes always start at Thomas Wootton High School and vary in distance by time of year ranging from 40-65 miles.

Currently we are starting at 9:00AM.

River +: May 4, June 1, June 29, July 27.

Explore Sugarloaf: May 11, June 8, July 6, August 3

THE Park Mills: May 18, June 15, July 13, August 10

Better Bucklodge: May 25, June 22, July 20, August 17

Wednesday’s Zephyrus Ride (April 12 - Fall)

This Ride is ON!

Route description: Zephyrus Bikes hosts our Wednesday night ride from the Giant Shopping Center in Falls Church, just off Rt. 50. The ride is no drop, casual, and meant to be a fun break to the work week.

The route travels through Fairfax County to Great Falls and back, approximately 28 miles.

The “Zephyrus VeloMelo (ZVM) Sunday Fondo”

See You in October

9 AM Start from Bluemont Park (Carlin Springs Rd. Pkg. Lot)

9:20 AM Pick-up at Lyon Village Starbucks

With the fall day’s daylight getting shorter and the interest in sustaining the popular Wednesday’s Zephyrus Ride throughout the winter, Jeff has volunteered to host a new Sunday morning ride. The group ride will keep the low-key social vibe of the Wednesday ride, with a new start / end location in Arlington to be more accessible for the riders.

The ride has a starting point in Bluemont Park (side parking lot on Carlin Springs Road), a pick-up stop along the Custis Trail at the Italian Store / Starbucks in Lyon Village, and then rolls across Key Bridge to Potomac, MD & back. The ride will formally end back in Lyon Village for a post ride coffee.

Vibe: Social, no drop. Gravel bikes welcome!
